Megan is an accomplished and committed practitioner in the art of chasing and repoussé. Brynmorgen Press will shortly publish Megan's title ‘Chasing and Repousse: Methods Ancient and Modern’. The techniques of chasing and repoussé are traditionally used to add form, decoration and detail to the surface of a piece of hollowware or jewelry. Sheet metal, hollow-formed metal, flatware, jewelry and sculptures can all be chased (textured and refined from the front with steel tools called chasing tools and using a chasing hammer), and worked from the back with rounded-faced steel, wood or brass tools, which is repoussé. For background on Megan, her artist’s statement indicates: 'A few years ago, I began a series of small vessels which were initially inspired by a study of historic Japanese helmets and botanical forms. These seemingly unrelated elements were fascinating to contrast, and have led to a developing philosophy about the representation of the physiological and emotional course of a human life in a botanical format, and the transformative power of art. The textures and forms in these pieces are combination's of imaginary and existing plant parts. Many of the vessels are meant to hold scented oil, with the stoppers actually hair ornaments with long pins. The wearer pulls the hair pin from the container, withdrawing the oil and giving the piece a new life by placing it in the hair. The action of withdrawing the pin is much like that of the hummingbird extracting nectar from deep within the flower. This combination of form, action and content in the natural world is the basis for much of my work. The most current work represents a passion for the captured moment, memories and sensory experiences in an allegorical format. I find the combination of the exterior world of individual perception (visual and tactile forms) with the interior world of thought, attitude and programmed responses in a cultural context an intriguing avenue to pursue. The challenge is in expressing these ideas in hollowware and jewelry which carry their own social and cultural associations.' Please join us for another round with Megan!

My guest will be John Corwin, Principal at Corwin Consulting, LLC. John has close to 40 years experience working with a variety of non-profits. We will be discussing two subjects: (1) whether to start a consultancy and how to go about doing so, and (2) making the transition to the non-profit sector after a for-profit career. Dr. Sheryl Feinstein is Professor and Chair of the Education Department at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. She is the author of the book, Secrets of the Teenage Brain 2nd Ed (2009), which is a national and international best seller for Corwin Publishing; Inside the Teenage Brain: Understanding a Work in Progress (2009)Rowman & Littlefield Publisher; and The Brain and Strengths Based School Leadership, Corwin (2011). She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2007-2008 and spent the year in Iringa, Tanzania and in 2006 was a summer fellow at Oxford, UK. One of the products of her Tanzanian experience was co-authoring the book, Tanzanian Women in Their Own Words: Stories of Illness and Disability. In addition to teaching at Augustana College Sheryl consults at a correctional facility for adolescent boys in Minnesota. Prior to being at Augustana College, Sheryl taught in the public schools and was a curriculum consultant for a K-12 school district in Minnesota. She also started and was director of an Alternative School for high school students.

Queer (In)justice: the Criminalizations of LGBT People in the United States, by Joel L. Mogul, Andrea J. Ritchie and Kay Whitlock (Beacon Press, Feb. 2011) as reviewed by Dnaiel R. Schaffer was discussed in brief during the show. Corwin and Phil have obtained an ebook version and will be reviewing it on air sometime in the near future.
